Schools + Colleges
Designing buildings for education, whether they be teaching spaces, eating facilities or boarding houses, requires the ability to blend diverse skills. High quality design, tight programming to suit the restrictions of the academic year, budgetary prudence, people flows and fire strategy combined with a human touch to create spaces that enable staff to both educate and nurture pupils.
Expertise and experience
Arctica works mainly in the independent schools’ sector to deliver practical architecture including the design of teaching spaces, boarding houses, and other subject-specific buildings. Our work includes sensitive interventions in Listed Buildings, balancing the needs of the end user with the requirement to respect the building’s own historic fabric and character.
School and college building projects often include food preparation and eating facilities, ranging from full-cook facilities to simple break-out areas with vending machines. We are very experienced in their design in collaboration with specialist cooking equipment suppliers, particularly where complex cooking facilities require coordination with mechanical and electrical consultants.
We work very closely with our clients to ensure that their vision in terms of the “look and feel”, including finishes and furnishings, is delivered within their budget constraints.
